2023 Camp GWC Request for Proposal for Speakers and Keynotes

Child Start is searching for exceptional presenters and keynotes to explore best practices and cutting-edge issues that influence young children for the 2023 Camp GWC Conference. Camp GWC is one of Kansas’s largest Early Childhood Conferences drawing over 300 attendees in person each year.  The 2023 Camp GWC will be exciting with two days of workshops, exhibits, networking, prizes, and other opportunities!

2023 Dates, Times & Location

  • Breakout Sessions:
    • April 14th, 2023 – Virtual (1:00 PM and 5:00 PM) – 1 Training Each Session
    • April 15th, 2023 – In-Person (10:00 AM, 12:30 PM, and 2:45 PM) -6 Trainings Each Session
  • Keynote Sessions:
    • April 14th, 2023 – Virtual National Keynote (7:00 PM)
    • April 15th, 2023 – In-Person Keynote (8:00 AM)
  • In-Person Conference on 4/15/23 held at 6100 W. Maple, Wichita, Kansas

 

Purpose

The purpose of the Camp GWC is to bring together parents and professionals serving children ages 0-8 for a fun, educational event that includes KDHE in-service hours..

Presentation Topics

Child Start takes pride in our efforts to provide Camp GWC attendees with education that supports the current issues facing early care and education programs. Each session will be 1.5 hours in length. Please review the suggested topics for Camp GWC below as you decide on your workshop submission. Additional relevant topics will be considered.

Sessions should meet a combination of the professional and personal development needs for parents, family child care providers, child care center/preschool program directors & coordinators, center and pre-k teachers, and/or front-line staff. Sessions should present best practices, innovative and evidence-based strategies, research and resources in a variety of topic areas.

 

Concessions

Presenters will receive complimentary conference registration and access to all conference networking events included in conference registration. Travel and other related expenses will be the responsibility of the presenter*.  Presenters will receive a $125 stipend per session accepted or a complimentary exhibit booth (virtual and in-person, one booth)*.  Child Start is grateful to those who are able to waive compensation.

*Keynote honorarium budget is more flexible and includes complimentary exhibit booth.

Please help us maintain the professional integrity of the conference by abstaining from the appearance of using your session as a marketing venue. Presenters will not be allowed to sell, display, or promote their events, publications, materials, and/or services during their training presentation. You will be permitted to distribute promotional materials to participants at the conclusion of your session and our conference staff are happy to facilitate distribution of your materials.  Additionally consider a complimentary exhibit booth in lieu of your honorarium. 

 

Content and Materials

Child Start takes pride in our efforts to provide Camp GWC attendees with education that supports the current issues facing early childhood. Each year the conference agenda is modified based on the expressed needs of our members. All presentations must provide:

  • Group interaction or discussion
  • 1.50 hours of training including:
    • Allotted time for questions and answers
    • Allotted time for participants to complete presenter evaluations
  • For Saturday workshops: An LCD Projector and screen or similar setup will be provided. Laptops (Windows only) and Speakers available upon request.  Limited availability of white boards or Big-Paper Easels available (presenter supply own paper).  More information once presentation accepted.

KDHE In-service Hours Application

All approved presenters are required to submit a completed KDHE In-Service Hours Application prior to the start of the conference. Many conference attendees require KDHE Hours in order to comply with training and licensing requirements. Conference staff will help you complete this paperwork.

 

Selection Process

We are committed to creating a diverse, safe, and welcoming space for participants to learn and share. We want to make sure we receive conference session proposals from the widest audience as possible, including from you! All workshop proposals are welcome and will be considered.

All proposals will be evaluated using the following 5-7 criteria using a 1-5 point scale.  Max 25 points for breakout sessions, 35 for keynote sessions.

  1. Relevance of topic
  2. Creativity and interest of topic
  3. Uniqueness of workshop in Kansas (highest for new, never been presented)
  4. Clarity of description and learning objectives
  5. Opportunities for interaction & learning styles incorporated

Keynote Only:

  1. Proposed fee including travel
  2. National “fame”

 

Notification

All proposals will receive notification whether or not selected by September 16, 2022.  Responses will be sent directly to the primary speaker. 

 

COVID-19

The Camp GWC 2023 Planning Committee is closely monitoring the COVID-19 public health situation and associated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At this time, all accepted presenters for Saturday sessions should be prepared to present in-person. Our top priority is the health and safety of all participants and we will make and communicate contingencies in the case that it is not safe to conduct Camp GWC 2023 as an in-person event.
